Persons Sentenced for Attempted Theft of Petroleum Products from Trunk Pipeline in Leningrad Region

The Vyborgsky Garrison Military Court has convicted two persons arrested for and accused of attempted theft of diesel fuel through an illegal tapping into the Yaroslavl – Primorsk-2 petroleum products trunk pipeline (PPTP) in Vyborgsky District.

During specialised events held by the police of Leningrad Region with the assistance of Transneft Baltic’s security directorate, the accused were caught red-handed in a gardening plot while taking fuel from a tank with an offshoot from the illegal tapping.

By the decision of the Vyborgsky Garrison Military Court, the accused were found guilty of the offense under Part 3 of Article 30 and Clause b, c of Part 3 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted theft from a petroleum product pipeline on a large scale). The accused were sentenced to fines in the amount of RUB 150 to 200 thousand. Taking into account the previous sentence, one of the accused will serve a term in a standard regime penal colony for other crimes committed. The fuel stolen from the PPTP was returned to Transneft Baltic.
