Transneft Baltic Prepares Operating Facilities for Spring-Summer Fire Danger Period

Operating facilities of Transneft Baltic are preparing its infrastructure for stable operation in the spring-summer fire danger period in 2019, which will last from the moment snow melts down until the rainy weather season begins in autumn.

The standard distances of protected zones will be cleared of trees and shrubs for more than 1,200 facilities of trunk pipelines, 30 business units of pumping stations, 35 km of trunk pipeline sections and 80 km of high-voltage lines.

The Company’s specialists will check artificial reservoirs and access roads leading to water sources, arrange and renovate fire lines around the territory of 1,248 line facilities. They will also remove dry grass around 1,262 facilities, including tank dikes, valve units and PIG traps.

As part of the preparation of operational infrastructure for stable operation in the spring and summer fire danger period, the operability of fire water supply systems, as well as gas (aerosol, dry chemical) fire fighting equipment will be tested; seasonal maintenance of fire trucks will be carried out and availability of fire-fighting equipment will be checked. Experts will check the lightning protection equipment in both onsite and line facilities.

In order to respond rapidly, Transneft Baltic set up groups totalling 515 people to extinguish forest fires and is holding emergency response drills on extinguishing simulated forest fires for them.

In order to prepare the infrastructure for operation in the spring-summer fire danger period, the Company's specialists adjust fire extinguishing plans and conduct drills in cooperation with the territorial units of the EMERCOM of Russia.

Based on the results of the measures taken, heads of stations and branches write weekly reports on the preparation for the spring and summer fire danger period. At the final stage of the preparation, Transneft Baltic will issue certificates of facilities’ readiness for stable operation in the spring-summer fire danger period of 2019.
